Despite train strikes causing disruptions, the recent monthly creative gathering at Karma Sanctum Soho on May 7th was a resounding success. The event attracted a full house of enthusiastic attendees who were treated to mesmerising music performances by Livi Wollaston and Iona Lita.
Our esteemed filmmakers Asad Qureshi, Rennie Edwards, and Werner Schumann took a welcoming and open approach with the audience. Rather than engaging in lengthy discussions about filmmaking, they introduced themselves and invited attendees to seek advice or explore collaboration opportunities in the film business. This inclusive atmosphere encouraged interaction and potential partnerships, showcasing a supportive community within the industry. It’s wonderful to see such experienced professionals offering their expertise and fostering connections among aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts.
Singer and pianist Rick Dellaretta’s live performance from New York, centred around jazz for peace, received a warm reception and culminated in enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Beyond the entertainment, the gathering provided a platform for important discussions.
Documentary maker Sukh Raj pitched a sensitive subject about female foeticide, seeking collaboration and engagement from attendees. Additionally, Damian Wilk and Laila Sumpton showcased their campaign against social injustice, underscoring the event’s commitment to addressing pressing societal issues through creative avenues.
