Child Safeguarding Policy

SHY Films Child Safeguarding Policy
1. Introduction At SHY Films, we are dedicated to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all individuals involved in our productions, with a particular focus on children, young people, and vulnerable adults (CYPVA). This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and the procedures we implement to protect CYPVA from harm. 2. Scope This policy applies to all individuals working for or on behalf of SHY Films, including employees, freelancers, volunteers, contractors, and trustees (hereafter referred to as ‘staff’). It encompasses all activities involving CYPVA within our organisation. 3. Principles of Safeguarding To prevent harm and promote the welfare of CYPVA, SHY Films is committed to:
  • Safe Recruitment: Implementing thorough recruitment processes, including conducting necessary pre-employment checks (e.g., Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks), and ensuring new staff members undertake relevant safeguarding training before engaging with CYPVA.
  • Training and Awareness: Providing safeguarding training for all relevant staff members, tailored to their roles and responsibilities, to ensure they can identify and respond to safeguarding concerns effectively.
  • Reporting Procedures: Establishing clear procedures for staff to report safeguarding concerns, ensuring that all reports are handled appropriately and in accordance with data protection laws.
  • Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): Appointing a DSO responsible for managing safeguarding policies and procedures within SHY Films. The DSO’s contact information will be made available to all staff members.
  • Behavioural Guidelines: Encouraging staff to demonstrate exemplary behaviour, maintain professionalism, work transparently, treat others with respect and dignity, and build mutual trust with participants. Staff should avoid inappropriate behaviour, such as engaging in rough or sexually provocative games or making personal connections with CYPVA.
4. Reporting and Responding to Concerns All staff members are required to report any safeguarding concerns to the DSO promptly. The DSO will assess and record the information, seeking clarification if needed, and take appropriate action, which may include consulting with or referring concerns to external agencies. 5. Review and Monitoring SHY Films will regularly review this policy and its procedures to ensure they remain up-to-date with safeguarding laws and suitable for our activities and workforce. By implementing this policy, SHY Films aims to create a safe environment where CYPVA are protected, and staff are supported in fulfilling their safeguarding responsibilities.
